Is it time for the new school year yet?

Published by bonnieandclyde under schooling

One of the biggest contradictions that we’ve found in homeschooling is “big box time”.  The time of year when the big box of books arrives from Sonlight and we start drooling over all the neat books that we’re going to read and cover in the next year… yet in some ways, we’re still burned out from the day-to-day business of the last school year.

On one hand, Clyde loves to read the new books.  On the other, he knows it means settling back into a routine that doesn’t involve just playing on the computer, or going to the pool.  Bonnie loves the new things, too, but she thinks she’d also rather be playing with her Polly Pockets.  I love to read the new books, too, but the overhead of getting lesson plans done?  Ugh.

So, what are we going to tackle this next year? It’ll be a busy year!

Clyde:  Sonlight Core 3 for history and geography (first half of American History), SL LA  3, Sequential Spelling, Grammar Ace, HWT,  Singapore Math 4, and an optional chess curriculum for fun.

Bonnie:  Sonlight Core 3 for history and geography, BJUP English 2 and ETC, Sequential Spelling, HWT, Singapore Math 2

We’re still tackling Noeo Chemistry 1, and will finish that up in the fall, and start Noeo Physics next.

Planned activities – we’re still on the fence for some, but it looks like both will be taking TaeKwonDo (Clyde is working for his black belt), and piano lessons.   Both are signed up for an art class that meets once per week, and Clyde will also be taking a writing class a couple of times in the month.  Both are still planning to do scouts, and both want to squeeze in drama when they can, and yoga, too.  Both want to do chess club, and we’re thinking about the PE Co-op as well.  It’ll be busy, that’s for sure!
